This Thursday is beyond TRILL…

July 8, 2011

…BECAUSE I just viewed Sade’s new video for “Love is Found.” She has definitely kept up with the times, keeping true to her jazzy fluid vocals while incorporating a more modern R&B sound (and do I hear a bit of Latin undertones? Yeah!). Check out her video.

While on the topic of beautiful vocals:

  • Warpaint, a band I figured was going to be too hipster, is AWESOME. Fooled by the first 2 minutes of this song, “Elephants,” I became an immediate fan of their out-of-no-where hard hitting choruses and amazing vocals. I know they have a new (and apparently trippy, but not available in the U.S. yet) self-titled song/video out but you can’t avoid this one.
  • Thank you Consequence of Sound for posting this all sorts of awesomeness including John Paul Jones and Alison Mosshart & Jack White of The Dead Weather.
  • I saw My Brightest Diamond blindly at a random show a few years back. She has one of the most beautiful and versatile voices I’ve ever heard. You can stream her new song, “Reaching Through to the Other Side” (which is nothing like, “…break on through to the other side” but the chorus line/song title reminds me of the Doors instantly) on her upcoming third album, All Things Will Unwind, over HERE at Pitchfork.

Other unrelated awesome things to check out today:

  • Raekwon teams with Nas for new song, “Rich & Black.”  It’s LEGIT!
  • Stream, silly duo,The Knux’s new song ft. Kid Cudi, “Run,” over HERE at Consequence of Sound. Awesome match up!
  • Lenny Kravitz + Drake + Jay-Z = THIS.
  • Arctic Monkeys released video from new album. I wasn’t impressed so you can search for that on your own. The guitar parts are tight but I’ll leave the kudos at that.
  • Stream Jeff The Brotherhood’s simplistic but heavy “Health and Strength” on Stereogum.
  • Lastly, but definitely not least, I’ve (ECSTATICALLY) jumped on the SBTRKT bandwagon.
