Update Tuesday

July 12, 2011

There isn’t much awesomeness going around as far as new videos, song, or album releases but there are a few exciting updates.

But bad news first:

R.I.P. Motorhead guitarist, Michael Burston. I’ll be jammin’ “Ace of Spades” all day long. Read about his obituary HERE via UK Guardian.

GOOD news:

  • Rock-Rap collabs seem to be the new “in” thing. Jack White, of the White Stripes, teams up with Black Milk (AWESOME rapper/hip-hop artist) to stew up two new songs. Stream them over at Some Kind of Awesome. It’s great shit and should be available to buy soon via White’s Third Man Records.
  • It’s coincidental that I’ve been in a Bush mood for the past two days (go ahead and say it, I’m stuck in the 90’s) because Bush announced their 5th LP, Sea of Memories, to be released September 13th. Read about it over at Consequence of Sound. Hopefully it’s decent stuff.
  • It isn’t surprising (since they’re coming out with new album) but sure is exciting that Portishead announced a North American Tour. Don’t see any Texas dates but I’m crossing my fingers. I definitely admire and look up to Beth Gibbons.
  • I totally called an MF DOOM – Ghostface Killah collab back in May on my 2011 album release list. A post on Pitchfork makes it official and notes that a track can be found on a frickin’ cassette tape in limited edition DOOM box sets. Does anyone still own cassette players? Retro rad but sorta hipster.
  • As you may have assumed I check for Queens of the Stone Age updates on the reg. Nothing new there BUT Rekords Rekords recently celebrated Eleven’s (awesome band) 20th anniversary.  Check out an unofficial youtube of a Josh Homme appearance on their cover of Queen’s “Stone Cold Crazy” below.
